Cheboygan County Habitat for Humanity (CCHFH) works in partnership with people from all walks of life to build homes, communities, and hope. We believe it is a basic human right that everyone has access to safe, stable, and affordable housing. We want to help you build a better life for you and your family that will last generations. Side by side, we will help you build a new home and learn the skills to become a successful homeowner. Becoming a homeowner is hard work but with some help from volunteers and donors, we can build a stronger future together.
Habitat houses aren't free. Habitat home buyers work hard to create a permanent solution to their housing struggles, and they purchase their homes from Cheboygan Habitat with an affordable mortgage, typically not exceeding 30% of monthly income. Applicants are first selected to be part of our Homeownership Program and then work to purchase their home via an affordable mortgage option. Program Partners are selected based on:

Ability to Afford a Mortgage
Applicants must be able to afford a mortgage for their home build or rehab. CCHFH serves community members falling between 30 - 60% of the Area Median Income as set forth by HUD. Applicants falling between 60-80% of the AMI, but can't qualify for a conventional mortgage are encouraged to call us for more details. |
Need for Housing
Applicants must have a housing need. This can vary for each household and situation. For example, your current shelter has problems with the heating, plumbing or electrical systems, mold issues etc. You could also be paying to much for your current living situation or having overcrowding issues. Need can vary for each applicant applying to our program. |
Willingness to Partner
One of the main components to our programs is Sweat Equity. If you are approved for this program, each able bodied adult in the household must be willing to put in 200 hours of sweat equity with 100 of those hours to be completed before a project is offered to you. Our goal is for you to learn and enhance your skills so you can maintain your home for the future. |
Are you ready to take the next step?
