Many “THANKS” go out to the Spartan Store Corporation for developing their Spartan Scan Program partnership with Habitat Affiliates around Michigan. During the month of February, Spartan Stores, the owner of Glen’s Markets, Family Fare Supermarkets, D&W Fresh Markets and Felpausch Food Centers engaged their stores in fundraising activities to benefit Habitat for Humanity affiliates where they serve. Customers of our local Glen’s Market were asked at the checkout counter, if they would like to make a donation to Habitat. Through the loyalty of our Cheboygan community members, $1,152 was collected to assist our Cheboygan County Habitat for Humanity affiliate with purchasing building materials for the Habitat home currently being built at 427 Duncan Avenue.

Two Michigan Churches Travel to Cheboygan to assist with Build

Members of Ann Arbor Universalist Church came to Cheboygan on June 18-19-20 to work on the Duncan Avenue House. Then on June 22, members of Haslett Community Church arrived to push the project forward. Each group contained 25 members. Members of our local community provided lunches for the visiting groups each work day. These congregations are use to mission trips, they have been in Mississippi, Georgia, Boston assisting where there is a great need. Cheboygan County Habitat is very appreciative of there work.

Ground Breaking Ceremony

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Duffiney Family took place on May 29th at 427 Duncan Avenue. The foundation is in, walls are up, trusses are in place and the roof is being put on. Windows arrive today. Members of St. James Episcopal Church have made this house project move forward. Hats off to the work crew from St. James.

The ReStore is moving!

If you have been in the store lately, you have seen the signs that the ReStore is moving. Well, it’s happening soon. On April 28th, if you want to enjoy the great bargains we have you will have to come to our new location at 9385 N Straits Hwy (formerly Sturgeon Bay Furniture).

We are excited about this new location which will be provide a much better shopping environment. Look forward to seeing you there.

New ReStore Hours

To better serve you, we are introducing new hours at the ReStore. Effective immediately, the store will now be open on Mondays and opening earlier on Saturdays. The new store hours are:

Monday - Friday: 10 am - 5 pm

Saturdays: 8 am - 3 pm

Cheboygan Habitat for Humanity has changed our traditional Banquet format, but the goals remain the same. Come join the fun and help us continue our work to provide decent housing at affordable prices for area residents.

In response to requests by many, we are doing something new. A pig roast will be the format for a summer picnic, but we will eat well “rain or shine.” Here are the particulars:

WHAT: Habitat for Humanity PIG ROAST with picnic fare PLACE: K of C Hall, Cheboygan M-27 South

WHEN: Thursday, AUGUST 14, 2008 TIME: Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and dinner begins at 6 p.m. PRICE: $12.00 per person and $25.00 per family FUN AND FROLIC:

A live auction of 5 major items and a silent auction of many other great things

Now, we need your help. We are seeking donations of five large items (valued at $200 or more) for the live auction. We also need a variety of smaller items to be part of the silent auction collection. This would include your crafts, services, and art works that will attract a spirited bidding environment. Some of you have become famous for your “gifts” contributed at past dinners. We know how talented the people in our area are and how generous they are for Habitat efforts. Please note the change of date for the banquet. We are trying to ease the demands on your time that often come in the spring and fall here in Cheboygan with the advent of sports for kids and school events each year. We would also welcome some of our residents who spend the colder months in other places. Now, you can encourage all your friends and neighbors to join the festivities. We have lots of space for chatting with everyone, getting caught up on local news. We will have space for kids to play too.
